Together with four other colleagues, I simulated a translation project as a LSP/translator’s cooperative, working end-to-end from the beginning Statement of Work, through the translation workflow with Trados, and ending with final delivery and post-mortem presentation to the client.
Our client was Parallax Press, the publisher of English books by Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. The project involved the translation of synopses of two books, titled “How to Connect” and “How to Relax”.
Statement of Work
We started by creating a Statement of Work for our client, which outlines the project description, quote, timeline and project deliverables. This was presented to the client at a kick-off meeting.
Final Project Deliverables
After the meeting, we continued to work through the phases in the workflow, using Trados and machine translation to produce the following final project deliverables:
- Target Translations (Word doc, PNG file) in Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Turkish
- Project Assets (Style Guide, Termbase, Translation Memory)
Post-Mortem Presentation
After finalizing the deliverables to be sent off to the client, we also came together to discuss our work process, and reflect on challenges, successes, and improvements to work on for future projects. This was presented in a post-mortem presentation, which you can watch below.
